The Return To Camberwell

For me this image captures a moment in time, two unknown people in an
unknown environment. From my point of view they have no identity,
no meaning. This picture arrises alot of questions: Were did they come
from? What was the need to take this photograph? Etc.
I Like the questionable substance to the history and creation
of this image.

"Science is a cotinuing effort to discover and increase human knowledge
and understanding through disciplined research." This image show me,
that hunger for knowledge, the expanding desire to delve further into
the scientific realms of the unknown. I found this image abandoned,
to me this signified the undiscovered and what is yet to be exposed similar
to scientific discovery.

This image arises the question in my mind, whether this is some form of
actual space suit designed to keep somone alive in outer space or whether it
was designed as a sculptural costume of some kind. The suit looks extreamly
out of place in what looks like a studio background, i like to imagine the
adventure the outfit has followed.

These theatre costumes are completely surreal and abstract and I'm
captivated by every one of them. As each costume is as extravagant
as the next, i wonder how the designer expects the audience to
differentiate the leading characters and the smaller roles. It also makes
me wonder what type of stage show and story line couple such a
hypnotic wardrobe.

This image does not indicate a clear era of time in which it was taken,
were in the world or even an idea of who the photographer might have
been. This image has a clear void in its identity much like the barron land
displayed, the mystery of this photograph is the most entracing aspect for me.
There is a clear notion of destruction and devistation but no explanation.

This costume displays both a comical and eerie persona. It looks
fantastically out of place in an abandoned road and seems it should be
displayed on stage or in a carnival. I immediatly fell in love with this
costume, its abnormal shape and weird plcaing of fabrics, and the way it
sits on its wearer, its bizzar individuality really appeals to me. I wonder
what type of charecter would make such a costume and what type of
event it was made for if one at all?

The era from which this photograph is taken really interests me, the style
of decor and the dress code. The image explains a housewife doing her
daily chores while pregnant as she does so, remains in good posture. I
really enjoy this article although seems slightly unnecessary but i have
no idea what is written in the rest of the book. I like the fact that without
the other pages of the book this caption seems slightly lost. The message i
read from the image is that if you are to do somthing you must put all your
effort into the task, if you are to do somthing there is no point in doing
a half hearted job.
I cannot express deepest sorrow for this toy horse. You can only but fantasize
about how loved and well used this little charecter was before this
photograph was taken. It reminds me of all the toys i once cherished as a
child and when you grow up how many of them are just desposed of. I have
one that i managed to salvage from my childhood that still sits rough and
warn in the corner of my bedroom. If only we could see through there eyes
as they lay dormant but watch how there owners grow up and sit sterile
and oblivious to the outside world.
This is my favourite image of all ten i have chosen. This image is a total
random and i stumbled across it in a file that i save anything because i
love to look at them. No matter how many times i look at this i never
get bored. The gaunt expressions mixed with the comical attire gives a
perfect balance to be very visually entertaining for me. I really do like
the old grainy effect of the image. I just want to know why?
This building is extreamly inviting, it represents that mystical and fairytale
place that you dream to discover as a child. A place of creativity, somewhere
you can immerse yourself in only but your own imagination. Even though
the building seems to be eroding its the though of what grace and
nobility it previously held.

Abandoned Southsea

After the fantastic episode of exploring the abandoned mental asylums in Epsom, one of my friends took me adventuring around a new space. This was an old abandoned house in Southsea on the south coast of England. After relising the fire escape on the first floor had been taken off, we ventured up the drain pipes.

The view from the roof of the building was beautifull!

Fashion Horror Stories

Ann-Sofie Back and BACK AW 2009

Stunning colletion, horror inspired! Showed by H.

"“Ann-Sofie Back burns in hell” is the theme for her Autumn Winter 2009 collection. Drawing inspiration from the U.S. and traditional American stereotypes, although referenced from the less traditional context of horror movies we all watched as teenagers; Poltergeist, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Carrie, Hellraiser, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead among others.

The college kid’s vicious dreams in Nightmare on Elm Street have inspired distorted snake and checked prints, and the blood dripping hat of Freddie Krueger. Freddie’s knife-glove appears to have scratched a pilot jacket and gloves, and torn through an entire theme of slashed denim and jersey - shirts, skirts, vests, dresses and jeans. The slashed and ripped design is an unconventional decoration on every day garments such as jeans and sweatshirts and vests."

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark

I can't stop loving these, so amazing, taken from Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.
By Alvin Schwartz (Author), Stephen Gammell (illustrator).

"A wonderful collection of tales about eerie horror and dark revenge designed to captivate and enthrall readers for hours. There is a story here for every reader - tales of lovers who come back from the dead, skeletons with torn and tangled flesh who roam the earth, and people who stand on graves to be grabbed by death. "

Neu-Laxova Syndrome

For thoses who are interested in birth defects and specific disorders that can be developed through pregnancy or genetically then here is somthing interesting to read.

Neu-Laxova syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by onset of severe growth delay during pregnancy, multiple birth defects, and abnormal physical development of the brain. Affected infants typically die shortly after delivery or are stillborn.

In 1971, Dr. Neu published the first report of a family that included three children with a unique pattern of multiple birth defects. Each child had an unusually small head (microcephaly) and abnormalities of their arms, legs, skin, and external genitalia. The two affected daughters were each stillborn, while the affected son only lived for seven weeks.

There are many symptoms that acompany this syndrome, which are some of the following:
Growth Deficiency, Small Head, Lissencephaly, Absence of corpus callosum, Hypoplasia of cerebrum , Hypoplasia of cerebellum pons, Lack of scence of smell, Sloping forehead,Widely spaced eyes, Protruding eyes, Absent eyelids, Flattened nose, Round mouth, Gaping mouth, Thick lips, Everted lips, Small lower jaw, Large ears, Short neck, Yellow subcutaneous tissue, Thin skin, Transparent skin, Scaly skin, Edema, Ichthyosis, Short limbs, Syndactyly of fingers, Syndactyly of toes, Puffy hands, Puffy feet, Overlapping fingers, Overlapping toes, Calcaneovalgus, Vertical talus, Flexion contractures of main joints, Pterygium of main joints, Poorly mineralized bones, Cataracts, Small eye, Persistent embryonic eye structures, Absent eyelashes, Absent head hair, Muscular atrophy, Hypertrophy of fatty tissue, Polyhydramnios, Short umbilical cord, Small placenta.

Epsom Mental Alsylums

So, a couple of weeks ago we decided it would be a marvelous idea, to investigate somewere unique and abnormal. The abandoned mental asylums in Epsom seemed a admirable place to start the adventures. At the beginning of the day we were expecting to find the one asylum named "West Park" i had previously researched on the internet. As i was unsure of the location of the asylum and how tight security was, the primary part of our day was mostly guess work. Once we had finally stubbled upson the main cluster of the asylums we were releaved. The buildings are fascinating to explore and although an unfiendly run in with a secuirty guard delaid our exploration slightly we carried on venturing through the grounds....
The buildings are very eerie and still embody a strong menacing ambiance. There is a substantial amount of fire damage to some buildings which makes the floors and ceilings unsafe, so if you feel like venturing around you have to be extreamly carefull. Alot of the dated medical equipment lay disguarded and outcast medical signs and patient files are cast aside. The lack of light cast a fantstic mysterious and ghostly shaddow across hospitals. The day was extreamly poductive and allowed us to collect a number of physical items to research and some amazing photographs.
